Limerick side aims to win national American Football title at Garryowen FC

UL Vikings celebrating their Bowl semi-final win

A LIMERICK college side will compete in a national American football championship final at Garryowen FC next weekend. 

UL Vikings will be taking on Louth Mavericks in the American Football Ireland Division 1 Bowl final at 2pm on Sunday, July 9. 

UL Vikings beat Rhinos in their semi-final at UL to claim their Bowl final spot. 

They have previously won three finals between 2007 and 2009 in a different division which was titled the Shamrock Bowl. 

The UL team is made up of 35 players and is coached by Darragh O’Callaghan. 

The game of American football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world with the Irish association of the sport founded in 1984.

Since then the league has grown to having 49 teams spread across three areas of the game; padded, flag and youths. National teams have also been created for these three areas with international matches occurring yearly.
