Dooneen AC athletes Eimer Ryan, Meabh Purtill and Alan McCutcheon who represented Munster at the Interprovincial Tailteann Games at SETU Carlow last weekend
Tailteann Games
Well done to the Limerick athletes, from the various schools and clubs who competed together for Munster in the Tailteann Interprovincial schools competition on the campus of the South Eastern Technological University (SETU) Carlow last Saturday.
There was a Gold medal for Stuart Tobin, of Castletroy College, and Limerick AC in the 100mh in 13.74 secs. Meabh Purtill was a brilliant third in her Long Jump and ran on the 4x300m relay team which won gold. Eimer Ryan threw a brilliant 9.76m in the Shot Put finishing 8th.
Rosie Gavin was 5th in the 100m and along with Orla O’Shaughnessy on the 4x100m relay team which came second. Orla O’Shaughnessy was also 2nd in the 200m. Alan McCutcheon, of Crescent College Comprehensive and Dooneen ran a great race in the Steeplechase finishing 5th in very windy conditions.
Luke Calitz was 5th in the 200m and on the Munster team which came 3rd in the 4x100m relay. Aaron Lynch ran a Pb time of 9:25 in the 3000m. Well done to all on representing their province, which was a real honour and no doubt developing from the experience.
Limerick Community Games Finals:
Congratulations to all athletes who competed at Mungret St Paul's GAA club. There was a great turnout over the two days. Thanks to all the coaches, parents and club members who helped run and set up the event.
International
Congratulations to Victoria Amiadamen who represented Ireland at the Mannheim Junioren Gala Meet over the weekend. She came in 3rd in the 4x400m relay in a season's best of 3:40:97. Victoria also competed in the 400m individual sprint and came in 6th in a personal best time of 60:32 secs.
Well done to the Irish Team who were crowned division 3 champions at the European Games in Silesia. Sarah Lavin, Sharon Mawdesley and Thomas Barr were amongst the Irish contingent. Emerald ACs Sarah Lavin with the third fastest time in the 100m hurdles across the 3 divisions and took the outright Bronze Medal. A fantastic achievement.
Parkrun
Shona Keane in a time of 19:10 was fastest overall at UL Parkrun last Saturday.
50 Years ago
A Treble by Paddy Ruddle who won 56 lbs. for distance, 16 1b. shot and discus, doubles by Robert Costelloe (Limerick A.C.), 1500 and 5000m, and Marie Dooley (St. Patrick's, Ballyneety) who won the ladies shot and discus, highlighted the County Limerick senior B.L.E. T&F championship held at Kilmallock G.A.A. Grounds.
20 year old Pat O'Callaghan (Limerick AC), won the Limerick 15 miles Road Championship held at the out and back course from Mungret village.
O'Callaghan made his winning break 4 miles from the finish and smoothly crossed the line 150 yards clear of runner up, Scamus Crcgan (Croom), with Robert Costelloe (Limerick A.C.) 3rd . Mike Carmody’s Hint of the week. “If preparing for the Dublin Marathon or another autumn marathon - aim for a gradual increase in your weekly training volume and the distance of your long runs during the next couple of months, and try to avoid an increase in excess of 30% within any 4-week period.”
Fixtures
The 38th Coillte 10K road race takes place in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary on Wednesday 5th July at 8pm. This is one of Munster’s flattest, fastest 10K’s. It also incorporates a 5K Junior race. Entries through Eventmaster.
The Moreabbey Milers 10 Mile takes place on Sunday 9th July at 11am in Galbally.
