The Limerick Cricket Club first XI that took on County Galway last weekend.
THERE WAS just one victory for Limerick Cricket Club last weekend as the wet weather conditions caused havoc for a packed fixture list. Only one victory was possible with the thirds XI earning an impressive win over Nenagh.
Limerick were looking to bounce back in the Arachas National Cup against County Galway on Saturday after a slow start to the season. The Limerick first XI made the short trip to Lycidan where a superb display with the bat resulted in their highest total so far this year in 276 off just 40 overs.
Unfortunately, before a ball was even bowled in the Galway innings, a downpour came in over and lasted until umpire John O’Dea made the call to abandon the tie. The abandoned game now means Limerick will host County Galway in a refix this Sunday at the Manor Fields with a start time of 1pm.
The weekend action kicked off on Friday when the 3rd XI played the first of three T20 games against rivals Limerick Blasters. The 99/9 from the 20 overs was never going to be enough and the Blasters went on to earn a 4 wicket win. Ashokkumar Jayaraman top scored with 21 runs.
The thirds returned for two more games on Sunday and County Kerry. An incredible comeback saw them to victory over Nenagh. However, there was no result possible in the game with Kerry due to the adverse weather conditions.
In youth cricket, Limerick’s U17 side got their campaign underway on Saturday as they travelled to Lycidan in a game which wasn’t fairly reflected by the scoreboard in a 42 run loss to Galway. The U13 team fell to a two-wicket defeat to Cork County.
Next weekend sees the refix of the National Cup game as the main event on Sunday afternoon in Adare but there will be plenty more action on Saturday as the 2nds continue their T20 campaign away to County Kerry at the Oyster Oval.
The 4th XI will follow the footsteps of the thirds with a double header on Saturday against Clonmel and County Kerry respectively.
