THE first Premier Trophy of the season will be decided on Good Friday evening when Pike Rvs take on Aisling Annacotty in the Tuohy Cup final at Jackman Park, 6.45pm kick-off.
Pike Rvs lead the way in the Premier League and the chasing pack don’t look like catching them.
Early exits from the Munster and FAI junior Cups, while not appreciated at the time, seems to have stood Pike in good stead in local fare as they are also in the semi final of the Lawson Cup.
Aisling had a transformation when they lost a number of big-name signings in the transfer window. Rather than sulk, they regrouped and have assembled a solid side, capable of mixing it with the best.
A 1-1 draw with Fairview last weekend gave evidence of their doggedness.
Aisling beat Regional Utd, Janesboro and Carew Park to make the decider while Pike saw off Nenagh and Charleville.
Both teams have a number of players at the top of their game. Pike’s Steven McGann has been in scintillating form while Aisling’s Joel Coustrain is another player for the big occasion.
It promises to be an exciting affair.
After the disappointment of their exit from the FAI Junior Cup last weekend, Ballynanty Rvs are in FAI Senior Cup action this weekend against St Michaels.
Saint’s reached the Junior final last weekend with a win over Gorey so they will be on high. Ballynanty Rvs will be trying to play their way through their disappointment. However, it’s a game that fails to instil excitement in either camp with both sides’ attention more fixed on upcoming junior games.
In the Premier League Bottom Six most eyes are on the battle between Mungret and Janesboro to avoid the drop. However, a win or two for wither side would bring the rest of the pack back into danger. With that in mind Carew Park and Coonagh Utd will be keen to add three points to ease the nerves.
In the Premier A League the two sides destined for promotion to the top flight meet when Geraldines host Newport. ‘Dines know that a defeat here would scupper any chance of winning the league trophy.
Newport have been in fine form with goals flowing freely. Garryowen, with a large crowd watching, will be a big test for them.
Fairview Rgs B are also in the running for the title, and they welcome Kilmallock to the Fairgreen, hoping ‘Dines might do them a favour elsewhere.
The Division 1A promotion race looks like a two-horse race but Caherdavin and Summerville are still not over the line/ Caherdavin travel to Pallasgreen and Summerville are also on the road at Holycross.
Caherconlish are chasing Patrickswell for the Div 1B title and they will be hoping to take full points at home to Wembley Rvs.
There is cup action in Division 2A when Lisnagry A host Newport C and Nenagh B welcome Kilmallock B while in Div 2B League, Croom can extend their lead if they can beat Hyde Rgs B.
Granville Rgs B lead the way in Div 3B League, and they will be expected to take full points at Corbally C.
Geraldines B are chasing, hoping for a slip up. They welcome Prospect Priory B in their tie
The Under 17 League Division One is turning into an exciting battle. Two of the challengers meet on Sunday when Pike Rvs host Aisling Annacotty A while Fairview Rgs host Regional Utd.
Murroe lead Newport by a point in the Under 17 Div 2 league and both are in action on Sunday. Murroe are at home to Granville Rgs while Newport welcome Corbally Utd.
