Ipswich close in on League One top two after taking points from Derby

Ipswich closed in on the League One top two with a seventh-straight victory as they beat Derby 2-0 at Pride Park.

They caught Derby on the break in the 17th minute with Nathan Broadhead crossing to Wes Burns, who headed the ball down for Conor Chaplin to score from 12 yards.

Derby fought their way into the game and went close in the 33rd minute when a James Collins cross ricocheted off Cameron Burgess and was held on the line by Christian Walton.

They had a great chance to level on the stroke of half-time when Nathaniel Mendez-Laing crossed to the back post where David McGoldrick headed into the side netting.

Derby thought they had equalised in the 49th minute but Eiran Cashin’s header from a corner was ruled out for a foul.

Ipswich had been pushed back but they sprung out in the 76th minute through Burns, who was denied by Joe Wildsmith only for George Hirst to fire in the rebound and put the seal on another impressive performance.
