The Limerick Desmond League season has reached a crucial stage
Premier Division:
Glin Rovers (1) 2 (Paul Sheehan, Jack Sheehan)
Broadford Utd (1) 4 (Michael Brosnan, James Molyneaux, Alan Fitzpatrick, Ray Lynch)
BROADFORD Utd remain the only side undefeated in the premier division after an impressive four two win away to Glin Rovers on Sunday morning last.
Interestingly, Broadford have not tasted defeat in the league since losing away to Rathkeale in January 2020. The game on Sunday had Broadford dominating the possession stakes with Glin looking a real threat on the break.
Despite some good chances it was around the half hour mark before a net finally bulged, Paul Sheehan scored inside the near post from the edge of the area as the visiting defence packed off and paid the price.
However, Broadford weren’t behind for long when, not for the first time, Michael Brosnan pulled it out of the fire with a twenty-yard effort after being picked out by Ray Lynch.
Three minutes into the second half Glin were back in front when winger Jack Sheehan delightfully lobbed keeper Gearoid Greaney from twelve yards. Glin defended resolutely for twenty minutes or so but parity was restored when, from a Brosnan corner, James Molyneaux headed to the net.
Broadford took the lead for the first time when a superb Jack Hogan cross found Alan Fitzpatrick one on one in the box and he cooly dispatched his header over keeper Mike Stack.
Broadford sub Ciaran O’Sullivan made an impact following his introduction, a suberb run down the right and a clever step over by Fitzpatrick, the ball found its way to Ray Lynch who made no mistake from close range. Broadford are just a point behind leaders Rathkeale with a game in hand with the sides having to meet one more time in Holycross.
