Ten-man Solihull hold on for victory against Torquay

Ten-man Solihull hung on to claim the points in a five-goal thriller against struggling Torquay.

Despite starting the game rooted in the relegation zone, the Gulls made a bright start and were ahead within two minutes when Ross Marshall headed home a free-kick.

Torquay came close to doubling their advantage when a long-range effort from Sammy Collins was tipped round a post by Solihull goalkeeper Ryan Boot.

Moors, who broke a five-game winless streak against Maidstone on Saturday, levelled through Josh Kelly and grabbed the lead on the stroke of half-time when captain Callum Howe bundled the ball home.

Mark Beck soon extended Solihull’s lead but the hosts had Jamey Osborne sent off for a second bookable offence on the hour and had to hang on after Lewis Collins reduced the deficit late on for Torquay.
