NEW kids on the block Coláiste Iósaef Community College, Kilmallock produced the ultimate display to be crowned FAI Schools Junior ‘B’ Girls National Cup Champions following a stunning performance in Clonmel Celtic on Wednesday afternoon.
The empathic display also resulted in a clean sheet for the Munster Champions as the previously impressive CBS New Ross were convincingly beaten on a 6-0 scoreline.
Emma Cuddihy’s Kilmallock side turned on the style with a hat-trick from Treaty United Under 17 star Abbey Walsh, a brace from Captain Lillian Hogan and her twin sister Annaliese added to her tally of two assists by netting herself.
A well rounded performance which saw the Kilmallock school open the scoring with 13 minutes played as Lillian Hogan latched onto a corner from Annaliese Hogan to shoot past the hardworking Ellie O’Connell.
Their lead was doubled nine minutes later through Abbey WALSH with a powerful strike that O’Connell just couldn’t do anything about as Annaliese turned supplier yet again.
Coláiste Iósaef lead 2-0 at the break.
Any hopes of a New Ross comeback were dashed even more when Lillian Hogan popped up for her second goal and Kilmallock’s third of the afternoon seven minutes after the restart.
New Ross just had no response for the onslaught as Abbey Walsh grabbed her brace and Coláiste Iósaef’s fourth on 51 minutes, while Annalise Hogan netted their fifth goal a minute later.
Walsh completed her hat-trick three minutes from time to leave a comprehensive result against a determined CBS New Ross who were well served by Captain Rossiter, Gaffney, Purcell and Wallace.
The 2023 Junior ‘B’ Girls National title will be added to the Senior ‘B’ crown which Coláiste Iósaef earned back in 2011.
Similar to CBS New Ross, the Kilmallock girls will be looking to return next season to defend their provincial and national honours.
