CELEBRATING the 50th anniversary of the opening of Jackman Park, the Limerick District League’s friendly game to mark the occasion was a great success with kudos due to all concerned.
A big crowd turned out on the night to witness Treaty United defeat their junior counterparts 2-0 in a competitive encounter.
The senior side were sharply out of the traps on Friday evening and took the lead through Enda Curran.
A number of superb saves by Pike Rover’s Gary Neville kept the deficit to one until Steven Christopher added a second ten minutes before half time.
A glut of changes at the break, with the District League introducing a number of players from the lower division, suggested the 'Juniors' could be in for a rough 45 minutes.
However, a gutsy display saw them keep the winners scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The game was never about the result and both sides will have taken positives from the action.
After the game, two members of the LDMC from 50 years ago when the park was purchased, Michael Noonan and Willie O’Brien, presented commemorative medals to the respective squads.
