WITH the exception of a couple of FAI Youth games, focus this weekend returns to local fare with the Lawson Cup attracting most attention.
In the FAI Youth Cup, Fairview are on the road to face a very tough assignment against Dublin side St Josephs Boys while Aisling Annacotty, favoured with home advantage, welcome Navan side Torro Utd.
There is one Premier League game scheduled but a vital one as Pike Rvs look to take over top spot if they can take something from their trip to Regional Utd.
The Dooradoyle side recorded a superb win last weekend in Sligo when Kieran O’Connell’s last gasp winner saw them beat Strand Celtic 3-2 in the FAI Junior Cup.
They will find Pike Rovers (who’ve conceded just one league goal to date) a tougher to crack. The Hoops had a facile win over Glenview in the Lawson Cup.
The top game scheduled in the Lawson Cup pits Premier A leaders Geraldines with top flight side Carew Park.
These two sides always produce a good game whenever they cross swords and Sunday should be no different.
A couple of Carew players switched allegiance to ‘Dines when the transfer season reopened which will add further spice to the fray.
Fairview Rgs, fresh from their FAI win in Athenry last weekend travel to a Pallagreen side, struggling to get a run going this season. An in-form Fairview is the last thing they need.
Division 2B leaders, Croom Utd have a squad well capable of playing at a much higher level and on Sunday they get the chance to pit their wits against a rampant Ballynanty Rovers XI.
The Premier outfit beat Donegal side Castlefin Celtic 5-0 in the FAI last Sunday and will be determined to keep their winning form intact.
Table toppers in Division 1A, Caherdavin Celtic welcome Premier A favourites Newport at the Greenhills while Division 2A leaders Caherconlish could well topple Division 1A side Knockainey.
Prospect Priory welcome Summerville Rvs more in hope than expectation while Kilmallock are favoured to advance at the expense of Cappamore.
Elsewhere in the Lawson Holycross welcome Star Rvs and Wembley Rvs take on Murroe in Rathuard.
In the Premier A League Corbally Utd will be looking to build on their success over leaders Newport when they host another challenger for the title in Fairview Rgs B.
Hyde Rgs A will be hoping to bounce back after a bad result last weekend when they host Athlunkard Villa.
The Open Cup continues apace with a number of exciting ties on offer. Hyde Rgs B welcome Mungret Reg while Meanus host Lisnagry A. Granville Rgs B v Charleville and Nenagh B v Carew Park B make up the schedule while Division 3A pits two of the top sides against each other when Ballynanty Rvs B host Brazuca United.
