Limerick Athletics - Weekly News Update

Megan O’Shea, Dooneen AC, after winning gold in the Girls' U14 60m hurdles at the North West Championships in Athlone

A NUMBER of events took place over Christmas.

JUVENILE

December 28 saw the running of the 6th North West Indoor Championships in the Athlone Indoor complex.

Dooneen Athletic Club had a number of our female athletes performing. All the events were based on timings. Megan O'Shea won the U14 girls 60m hurdles in a very strong competition. Megan competed in the U14 girls 60m sprints and won her heat comprehensively.

Destiny Lawal won the girls U14 200m sprint and won her heat in the girls U16 sprints. Victoria Amiadamen came first in the girls U16 200m sprint followed home very closely by Debbie Lawal.
Destiny, Debbie and Victoria combined with Aoife to win an outstanding girls 4 x 200m relay.

FARRANFORE 5K

Farranfore Maine Valley AC 5K was held on St Stephen’s Day and Aogán MacDomhnaill was second in a time of 16:34, Shane Ryan Dooneen 34th 18:38.

KNOCKADERRY FC 7K

Knockaderry FC 7K Run/Walk The top 3 finishers were 1st Declan Guina 24.53 Second Karl Lenihan 25.52; third Mike Sheehy 26.23. West Limerick clubmate Orla Cusack was first woman.

KILCOLMAN ROVERS AFC 4-MILE - ARDAGH

First home was Niall O'Callaghan followed in second place by Karl Lenihan. Aaron Lynch came in fourth place followed very closely by Brendan Costello in 5th place followed by Declan Lynch.

Kate Murray was second lady home followed in third place by Suzanne Kennedy. West Limerick Juvenile club member Fiona Mulcahy came 4th and Tara Carr was 6th lady home

CLONMEL AC
Dymphna Ryan (Dundrum AC) was third woman in 22:30, Gary Egan 22:48.

PARKRUN

Well done to all who ran Parkrun at UL on Christmas Day. More than 140 attended with some travelling from as far away as Galway, Dublin and even London. The Goal Mile was also held on the UL Track as well as Crecora and Killaloe.
2022 Highlights

According to Kilmallock AC their yearly highlight was being able to stage their 4 Mile road race again last May for the first time since 2019.

For Shane O’Sullivan (Dooneen AC) it was taking home a Gold medal while representing Ireland at the World Masters T&F Championships in Finland last July.

FIXTURES

The Tom Walsh Memorial 10K Run/5 Mile walk takes place. The Michal Rejmer 10 Mile Road Raceat Limerick Racecourse takes place on Sunday 16th April.
