LIMEIRCK'S Crescent College Comprehesive were agonisingly on the wrong side of a Pinergy Munster Senior Schools epic when they fell in the quarter-final, 31-30, to Christian Brothers Cork, at Thomond Park this Wednesday.
Despite registering three second half tries, which helped them back from a 15-point first half deficit, John Bateman’s Crescent youngsters came up just short in a contest that will live long in the memory for those who were at the game.
Played in dry conditions in the opening 35 minutes, the heavens opened in the second half as the Limerick school piled the pressure on their Cork opponents.

Crecent were last winners in 2022, their twelfth title, as the Cork schools continue to dominate this level of rugby. CBC face rivals PBC in the last four of the Senior Cup now in two weeks time.
The current champions are targeting a record equalling 33rd title.
For Crescent College, a sluggish start, which saw them concede three tries in the opening 20 minutes was a large part of their downfall. That said, they did lead late on only for two-sucker punches to hit them. They also had a kick to win the contest, go inches wide, as the Cork school escaped with victory.
Alan Cleary had replied with two routine converted penalties but a try had eluded any Comp attack early on. They did get one late in the half, Sean O’Brien emerged with the ball following a well executed lineout.
By half-time, CBC led 21-13, as momentum had swung.
The next scores came for Comp, with a try for Ryan Scanlon and another from replacement William Byrne as the game entered the closing minutes. This was their first time ahead, with Cleary’s conversion ensuring a 25-21 lead.
However, the fragile nature of that lead was exposed as fresh legs of Eamon O’Sullivan saw him ghost into the corner. Another O’Sullivan, Rob notched a fifth CBC try inside the final five minutes. Neither were converted, allowing Comp a chink of light, trailing 31-25.
Their reply was swift and effective, as prop Christian Lillis bagged a try of his own. However, Cleary failed with the testing touchline conversion.
In pursuit of a game winning score, Comp couldn’t penetrate a resolute Christians defence and thus fell short – eventually coughing up a penalty with time elapsed.
