CRESCENT College Comprehensive’s dreams of securing a first Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup final appearance since 2022 were dashed after a 29-17 semi-final loss to CBC at Thomond Park this Tuesday.
The Dooradoyle school last won the competition three years ago, but any hopes of another title were ended by a classy Christians' outfit.
CBC hit the front early doors with a sniping run from Christopher Barrett catching the Crescent defence off-guard. Charlie O’Shea added the conversion to put CBC 7-0 up.
Gerry Joyce thought he had responded quickly for Crescent only for Charlie Fenton’s pass judged by the referee Paul O’Connor to have gone forward.
However, the same duo combined on the half hour to get Crescent on the board with Joyce touching down.
CBC were soon back on the hunt for a second try and it was Bill McCarthy that did the damage with a fine finish after a slick Christians move. O’Shea nailed the conversion to put his side 14-5 ahead at the break.
O’Shea used his right boot to great effect at the beginning of the second half with an inch perfect cross-field kick seeing Darragh Prenter in for a third CBC try.
Darragh McKeogh responded for Crescent, but McCarthy’s second effort, and an O’Shea penalty, had CBC 19 points clear in the final stages.
Crescent did manage a consolation try through Alex McNamara but it wasn’t enough to mount a late comeback and it was CBC that marched into the final.
