CRESCENT College Comprehensive booked their spot in the Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup quarter final with a 36-29 win over Bandon Grammer School at Thomond Park.
Four second half tries saw the Dooradoyle school earn a victory over their Cork opponents after a very even opening 35 minutes.
Bandon made all the running early on and deservedly went in front eight minutes through a polished Conor Ryan try but Crescent responded through Fionn Casserly. A penalty each then saw the half time score at 8-8.
Crescent took the lead for the first time 12 seconds into the second half when Bandon failed to deal with the kick-off with number 8 and captain Cillian Kelly taking advantage to power over for the try that Eoin O'Callaghan converted.
However, Bandon responded immediately through Calem Harte. Peter Symington then nailed a superb conversion to level the game at 15-15.
Crescent regrouped and were soon back in the ascendancy when Marcus Lyons sniped under the posts for a third try that O'Callaghan converted.
A fourth try then followed courtesy of Andrew Ahearne. Again, O'Callaghan nailed the resultant kick to put Crescent 29-15 in front.
Bandon responded with a Conor Ryan but his namesake came off the bench for Crescent with their fifth try that O'Callaghan converted. Bandon's Conor Ryan bagged his hat-trick late on but Crescent held on for the win.
