BURNLEY Football Club has confirmed that their Limerick forward Dara Costelloe has signed a contract extension that takes him up to June 2026.

Twenty two-year-old Costelloe will now head out to Sky Bet League One side Northampton Town for the remainder of the campaign.

On signing his new deal with the SkyBet Championship club, Costelloe told Burnley FCs official website that he’s ready to write the next chapter of his career: “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract for Burnley!

“Having come through the academy to be part of the Premier League squad a year later was amazing.

“The club have continued to support my development as a footballer and I’m now looking forward to the next step with a loan spell at Northampton Town.”

The Limerick man spent the first half of this season on loan with Accrington Stanley, where he scored five league goals in 21 games for the League two side, before an injury meant he returned to Burnley earlier this month.

After a rehab programme with the Clarets and now extending his stay with the Club, Costelloe will head to Northampton for the rest of the season to gain further first team experience.

The highly-rated Costelloe, who attended Lisnagry NS and Castletroy College, played schoolboy football with Aisling Annacotty.

Costelloe joined the Burnley Academy after impressing in a trial with the club.

The striker joined the Clarets’ Academy in January 2021 after signing a deal with the Turf Moor club.

Costelloe made his competitive debut for Burnley in the opening game of the 2022/2023 Sky Bet Championship season. He had earlier been included on Burnley's first-team bench for the last seven games of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

The versatile Costelloe can also play as a winger.

The Limerick native, who played Kennedy Cup with the LDSL, joined League of Ireland side Galway in 2017 and made his senior debut at the age of just 15.

Dara Costelloe became the youngest player to take the field for Galway when coming on as a substitute in their SSE Airtricity League fixture with Finn Harps.

Costelloe made a big impact after joining Galway United’s under-15 team in 2017 from Aisling Annacotty.

The talented footballer came into Galway’s under-17 squad in 2018 making 17 appearances.

The left-sided prospect was rewarded with a first-team contract for the 2019 season at Galway.
