Limerick teams compete in knock-out stages of Kennedy Cup

The Limerick County Team competing in the 2024 Kennedy Cup

THE Kennedy Cup action ramps up again today, Wednesday, as the three Limerick teams get ready for quarter-final action.

After a great display in their group games Limerick Desmond and District will both compete in the Bowl competition, while Limerick County will play in the Trophy quarters.

Desmond will be in action first this afternoon against Sligo-Leitrim at 2pm in their Bowl quarter-final while District take on Tipperary South in their equivalent quarter-final at 4pm.

Limerick County received a bye in their Trophy quarter-final and will go straight through to the semi's.

Beginning on Monday, June 10 all of the Limerick squads gained victories in their opening round games. Limerick Desmond competed in group one of the tournament registering a 2-1 win over Midlands in their first game of the week before a narrow 1-all draw against South Belfast. They finished off their group games with a great 2-1 win over Cavan and Monaghan to put them through to the second-tier Bowl competition.

Limerick District also began their week with a resounding 3-0 win over Wicklow and a further 2-1 victory over Dundalk. Unfortunately the side came up just short against Wexford, who toped group two's table pushing District into the Bowl quarters.

The final Limerick team in action, Limerick County, registered a 2-1 win against Kildare in their opening round game before falling short to Clare and Galway in their remaining group games. This meant County were grouped into the Trophy competition of the tournament.

All quarter-final action at the University of Limerick can be followed on the SFAI X account and also on the FAI Connect app.
