STUDENTS at one Limerick secondary school have received a very special delivery!

Second-year students at Thomond Community College recently received some very unusual post as part of the An Post Letter to My Future Self initiative.

At the beginning of first year, students were invited to write letters to themselves, outlining their hopes, goals and aspirations for the future.

This week, those letters were returned to the school, providing students with a unique opportunity to reflect on their personal journey over the past year.

Students enjoyed revisiting their thoughts and ambitions from first year, while considering how much they have grown and whether they had achieved the goals they set for themselves.

Evaluation of the initiative revealed that, for more than 50% of participants, this was their first experience of writing a letter.

An overwhelming 86% of students reported feeling happy and nostalgic when reading their letters and recognised the significant personal growth they had experienced over the year.

A spokesperson for the school explained: “As Thomond Community College has recently been awarded DEIS Plus status, initiatives such as this play an important role in supporting students' personal development, wellbeing and self-confidence.

“The project provided a meaningful opportunity for students to engage in self-reflection, celebrate their achievements and consider their future ambitions.

“The initiative successfully encouraged self-reflection, goal-setting and personal growth, making it a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved.”
