IT'S not every day that the people of Limerick get the chance to be part of one of the world’s greatest sporting events - but that opportunity has now arrived.

When Adare Manor was announced as the host venue for the 2026 Ryder Cup back in 2019, although excitement ran high, some wondered aloud, “God knows where we’ll be then” or “Will we still be above ground?”

At the time, it felt like the event was a lifetime away. Then Covid hit the following year, pushing the Ryder Cup in Adare back to 2027, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the tournament.

And now, just over a year out, the countdown is officially on for the September 2027 spectacle.

Last week brought a big announcement: applications are now open to volunteer at this star-studded affair. There are two roles up for grabs - the traditional on-course marshal and a brand-new ambassador role, designed to enhance the fan experience and ensure the smooth running of the event.

Applications for both roles close on April 1, 2026, and interest is already off the charts. Even before the portal opened, organisers had received 24,000 expressions of interest.

Those lucky enough to secure a spot will be placed at key locations, from transport hubs across the county to entrances at the golf course and prime spots within the Fan Village.

Volunteers will help visitors, answer questions, and make sure every guest leaves with unforgettable memories. No golf knowledge is required - just enthusiasm, a team spirit, and a love of creating great experiences.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of sporting history, and the stories you take home will last a lifetime… and then some.
