UL-Bohemian RFC is launching a new club history this Wednesday evening
LIMERICK rugby club UL-Bohemian is celebrating its centenary this year and to make the event, a splendidly-produced club history will be launched this week.
Former UL-Bohemian, Munster and Ireland players Brian Spillane and Niamh Briggs will launch Bohemian RFC/UL-Bohemian RFC 100 years - 1922 to 2022 at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel on Wednesday night, November 30 at 8pm.
The comprehensive club history was compiled by Club President John O'Sullivan, whose late grandfather was the first President of Bohemian RFC, Brendan O'Dowd, Mike Coffey, Eoin McCann, Mick Goggin, Louise Costelloe and Frank Malone.
The book traces the history of the famed club from its foundation in 1922, to its first AGM at Geary's Hotel, to their 1924 Transfield Cup success and Bohemian RFCs first Munster Senior Cup success in 1927, just five years after its foundation.
A Munster Junior Cup win followed in 1932, before a golden spell for the Red, Red Robins when recording three Munster Senior Cup wins in five years between 1958 to 1962, with such renowned players as Mick English, who went on to win 16 caps for Ireland and gain selection for the Lions, his brother Christy, Bill Mulcahy, who also played for Ireland and Lions, Tom Cleary and Sean McHale.
The club history also chronicles the more recent history of the club, including the amalgamation of Bohemian RFC with UL RFC in 1999 to become UL-Bohemian RFC. All are welcome to attend this Wednesday night's launch.
