Girls’ rugby in Portarlington RFC reached a new level last Saturday with 80 girls from four clubs playing in a blitz at Lea Road.
Wicklow, Tullow, Naas and Portarlington fielded two teams at Under 15 and 18 level and all teams played three games. This blitz was the first of its kind for Portarlington RFC and the girls rose to the occasion. The Portarlington girls did not let the cold and windy weather dampen their spirits as they played some thrilling rugby. Most of the players are new to the sport and it was great to see an improvement in their skills.
Try scorers for Portarlington on the day were; Nicole Kirwan, Nadine Thompson (2), Jessica Weiss, Ciara Gregory (2) and Karina McLoughlin.
The Under 15s next fixture is away to Tullow this coming Saturday 2nd February. The Under 18s are in action again on February 16. Training continues on Mondays at 7:30 and Wednesdays at 6:45. For more details call Martina on 0879401205.
