BRUFF remain firmly in the relegation zone as a result of their frustrating defeat to Malone last weekend at Kilballyowen Park.
The second-from-bottom South Limerick side paid a heavy price for a sluggish start when they coughed up 21 unanswered points. Despite producing an impressive second half rally, Bruff were unable to overhaul their visitors. A losing bonus point was scant consolation for the Limerick side who occupy one of two automatic relegation places in Division 1B.
The bottom two sides in the Division will be relegated to 2A at the end of the current season.
However, all is far from lost for Bruff at this stage. Mike Lynch’s side trail the side just above them in the table, Dungannon by two points, and are capable of overhauling them through the final seven series of fixtures.
Bruff makes one of their demanding five trips up North this season on Saturday when they lock horns with Belfast Harlequins at Deramore Park on Saturday afternoon.
One of Bruff’s two League successes this season was secured at home to ‘Quins, 21-17, in November.
Bruff will be targeting a fast start on Saturday against their hosts who lie in a comfortable mid-table position.
In Division 2A, Old Crescent will still be smarting from the concession of 17 unanswered points in the second half of last weekend’s outing with Bective Rangers which cost them a much-needed home victory.
Old Crescent looked to be in with a chance of securing a try bonus point early in the second period, when their second five-pointer of the match helped them build a sizeable 20-3 lead. However, the home side was pegged back by the Dubliners in the closing quarter and they had to be satisfied with a share of the spoils.
Old Crescent travel to struggling Greystones on Saturday.
In 2B, Thomond will be anxious to put their shock defeat against basement side Connemara behind them when they travel to Suttonians.
