MUNSTER Rugby's hybrid forward Tom Ahern is enjoying his new wide ranging role, which finds him on the wing on occasion during Munster's new attack.
In a Munster press conference during the week Ahern said "I am enjoying it quite a lot being out in the open space but all the credit goes to the boys in the middle, if they are not doing their job and getting us go forward ball, I wouldn't be in the positions that I am."
After their incredible victory against Toulon in France last weekend, Munster Rugby now face an even bigger challenge this evening at 5:30pm in Thomond Park when they host Northampton Saints.
Ahern has been playing as both his usual second-row position as well changing to back-row for certain games and Defense coach Denis Leamy has been "impressed" with the young players development.
"Tom is doing very well, especially in attack, he is a huge threat there in our system and our frame work and his athleticism, physicality and running ability makes him a real challenge for any team.
"Around his nuts and bolts, around being a six or a second-row in terms of scrum, maul and line-out and defense stuff, Tom knows there is plenty of work to be done there. He is a great talent but as always more to work on. In Irish rugby he is slightly unique in his athleticism being that tall, the way he moves and the qualities he has marks him out to be something a little different."
Munster's final group game in the Champion's Cup will be live on RTÉ 2 from 4:45pm this evening.
