The former scout hall in Kennedy Park is to be razed and replaced
A FORMER scout hall on Limerick's southside is set to be demolished to make way for new housing.
Councillors have approved an application to develop on land at Bawnmore Road in Kennedy Park.
Five new homes are planned for the site.
These will be made up of four two-bed semi-detached dwellings, which will measure just over 84 square metres.

One two-bed detached dwelling will also be built, measuring 80 square metres.
Four of the homes will have their own landscaped area connecting the houses to the existing estate.
Eight bike parking spaces will be provided.
Since the development is taking place on council-owned land, and being developed by the local authority, it was the role of members to decide on the project.
Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely formally proposed its acceptance, and said she hopes the name of the new area will reflect the area’s history of scouting.
“I’m very glad this has happened. As work starts on the site, it’s important residents are not impacted,” she said.
Cllr Kiely pointed out there were no objections to the plans, but her and her colleagues in City East did bring concerns from locals to council bosses.
“It's great to see this development on the cards here today. Before 2020, would you believe, Limerick City and County Council were unaware that they owned this site. I’m glad to have pointed this out and realised we can put houses on the site.”
Cllr Kiely’s comment was not challenged at the meeting.
Cllr Elena Secas, Independent, seconded adopting the plan, while support also came from Fianna Fail’s Catherine Slattery.
“These houses are badly needed in the area,” Cllr Slattery added.
