Senator Dee Ryan feels this a huge opportunity for Limerick
LIMERICK is set to host Germany during Ireland's upcoming EU Presidency term, which starts in July.
As part of that term, ambassadors of EU member states in Ireland will be accompanied by the Irish Ambassador in the relevant EU member state capital to visit counties across Ireland for a programme of public engagements focused on Ireland's EU relations.
Ambassadors will visit and engage with local authorities, community sports and youth groups, local libraries and schools amongst other aspects.
Limerick has been paired with Germany, something Fianna Fáil Senator Dee Ryan says is a huge opportunity.

“I am delighted that Limerick has been paired with Germany. It gives Limerick a huge opportunity to discuss areas of mutual priority and interest with Germany particularly Floating Offshore Wind from the Shannon Estuary and how Ireland can contribute to European transition away from fossil fuels.”
Senator Ryan sees this as a chance for Limerick to deepen relations with Germany. “It will be a moment for Limerick to deepen relationships with our German counterparts, to learn from their experience with developing floating offshore wind and other renewable energy projects and to discuss opportunities for collaboration and further cooperation in the future."
Ms Ryan also looks forward to engaging with German counterparts on a range of matters including sub-sea surveillance and defence.
Senator Ryan explained: “I look forward to improving economic links between the Mid-West region and Germany, which in my view requires direct air connectivity from Shannon Airport.”
“It is essential that we establish direct flights to Germany, Frankfurt or Berlin, in order to expand trade opportunities between Limerick companies and the largest economy in the EU.”
