The initiative, funded through the discretionary Mayoral Fund of Mayor of Limerick John Moran, was launched to support local organisations planning festive gatherings and events within their communities.
An initial allocation of €20,000 was made available to help offset costs and ensure a vibrant and inclusive Christmas experience for residents.
However, strong demand and the high quality of applications submitted prompted the Mayor to double the available funding to €40,000, allowing a wider range of projects to be supported. In total, €39,915 has now been awarded to 18 community groups across Limerick.

The successful projects reflect a diverse mix of festive initiatives, including Christmas light displays, concerts, cultural events, community dinners and family-focused celebrations.
Among those awarded funding are Cappamore Development Association Community Council for its “Let Cappamore Sparkle” light spectacle, Kilmallock Town Centre First Committee for Kilmallock Christmas Fest 2025, and the Askeaton Ballysteen Community Council for a community Christmas display.
Support has also been granted to projects in Moyross, Newcastle West, Mungret, Kilfinane, Garryowen and Limerick Island, among others.
Several cultural and inclusion-focused events are also being supported, including a Brazilian Christmas Day celebration at Wickham Way, a Wren Boys family festival organised by Conradh na Gaeilge, and a gospel choir concert by Limerick Gospel Choir.
Mayor John Moran said Christmas is a time to bring people together and foster connection across communities. He thanked the volunteers, residents and community groups involved, noting that while it was difficult to choose between so many strong proposals, he looked forward to seeing towns, villages and neighbourhoods across Limerick “sparkle” this Christmas.
