THE Limerick branch of heritage group An Taisce have raised concerns over the design of the new public realm around the Milk Market.
Councillors have approved a major transformation of the area around the market, at their metropolitan district meeting.
But the group has said that aspects of the design that seek to improve the walking and cycling experience in the area are non-compliant with national standards.

Sean McIlfatrick, the chair of An Taisce Limerick said: “We would like to see the best design for the area of the Milk Market.
"Residents, traders and visitors deserve a quality standard of design to ensure the area works for everyone.”
Sile Gillane, the public relations officer for An Taisce Limerick added: “The lack of adherence to the National Transport Authority’s design guidelines to ensure the best experience for people walking, cycling and driving in Limerick is disappointing.”
An Taisce Limerick did feed into the public consultation process around the development of the new Market Quarter plans.
As part of this, they raised their concerns.
These were addressed by Mayor John Moran.
He wrote: “The area is futureproofed and adaptable, allowing for more streets to be fully pedestrianised in the future.”
He added “a balanced approach” needs to be taken, in his response.
