Eight-storey apartment complex approved for Limerick city

Twenty-one apartments are included in the structure, which will be built in Upper Mallow Street

A NEW eight-storey apartment complex in the heart of Limerick has been given permission by An Bord Pleanala.
Twenty-one apartments are included in the structure, which will be built in Upper Mallow Street, overlooking the People’s Park.
Developer Pairc na Daoine''s plans will see a mix of residential apartments and commercial space.
An existing building will be demolished, and replaced with a complex containing three studio apartments, 15 one-bed apartments and three two-bed apartments.
An Taisce’s Limerick branch had appealed the council’s go-ahead for this development.
They cited concerns over height and how the building would appear in comparison to other homes.
They argued the building is a “decisive departure” from the rest of the area.
An Bord Pleanala rejected the appeal, clearing the way for construction.

Responsible for the design is top Limerick architectural firm Healy Partners, based in Lower Glentworth Street.
In a design statement, the firm wrote: “This proposed structure integrates harmoniously with Limerick's landscape, including the historic city grid and nearby Georgian architecture. It blends modernity with tradition, respecting the existing urban fabric while contributing new living, working, and social spaces.
“Our design approach is to create a space that not only fits its environment but also enhances it, establishing a dialogue with Limerick’s rich history and its future,” the firm added in its design statement.
