The top three finishers in the Limerick Runs Series 10k in Castleconnell last weekend
THE second event in the series took place in fine, sunny St Brigid's Day conditions last Sunday. And the outcome was a victory for Niall O’Callaghan, of West Limerick, in a time of 33:27. He held off the challenge of clubmate Niall O’Riordan who was second in 33:37.
Harry Healy completed the top three in 34:54, with another Limerick man Karl Lenihan fourth in 35:01. Patrick Meskell, of Limerick Track, was fifth in 35:41.
In the women’s race, Eimear O’Leary, of Galway City Harriers, made the trip down on the M18 worthwhile as she won in 38:29 with Ellen Hanley, of Grange Fermoy, second in 40:06.

Eilis Lynch was third in 40:26, with Anne MacPhail, of Dooneen, first Limerick athlete home in 43:40. Maire Curran was fourth in 44:10, sixth was Rosemary Ryan, of Limerick Track.
Other times included Kevin Johnson (35:04), Seamus McCarthy Dooneen (37:37) - both Dooneen AC, the An Bru duo of Maurice Hope and Gerry Prendergast finished in 41:59 and 42:00 respectively.
Eamon Moran (48.18), Christina Harnett (50.32) Tara Carr (53.11) Junior McNamara clocked 40:48 for Back to Boston with Thomas McNamara in 44:01.
The club also provided most of the pacers and thanks go to them all for an excellent job done! Close on 400 athletes finished which should be a satisfactory outcome for a series in only its second year. It continues with County 4-Mile and Open 4-Mile is next on March 15
John Treacy Dungarvan 10-Mile
A large group of Limerick athletes made the trip south to the Deise County. Brid Flanagan, of West Limerick, was 29th woman home in a time of 1:03:54 closely followed by Dooneen’s Clare Coleman who was sixth O40 female on 1:04:3.
Karol Downey was home in an excellent 1:07:15 for West Limerick. On a good day for the Deise County, Waterford native Louise Matthews clocked 1:13:12.
Other times included Mpho Chauke (56:36) Mike Griffin (1:12:47) – both Dooneen AC, Daniel Lane (1:09:06), Gerard Hannon (1:22:42) - both West Limerick AC. Doon based Neuromuscular Therapist Owen Ryan ran well in 1:02:21.
Former Dooneen Juvenile and Limerick native Jessica Coyne was second woman overall in 55:56 for Leevale.
International
London is calling for Limerick AC starlet Darragh Whelan will captain Ireland in the Celtic U17 Cross Country International in London this weekend. He competes for Ireland against Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in the 6000m U17 race on Parliament Hill. It is the second international vest for Darragh, who recently turned 15 and no doubt the second of many!
Abroad
Emerald ACs Ciare Neville was in flying form in Glasgow as she set a 60m PB of 7.28 seconds at the Scottish Athletics Indoor International last weekend.
Chichester 10k
West Limerick AC’s Killian Lynch travelled to England and continued his fine form to finish in a time of 32:25 and 31st place overall.

Dooneen AC Women resume their National League commitments with round two taking place this Sunday in the Athlone Indoor Arena.

The Adare 10K takes place on Sunday, February 22, as does the Milford Hospice 10K from the University of Limerick.
