Cappamore man William O'Connor is competing at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship in London

LIMERICK arrowsmith William O'Connor will begin his glory bid at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship this Friday evening, December 20 at at London’s Alexandra Palace.
Cappamore man O'Connor will face Dylan Slevin, from Tipperary, in an all-Irish opening round game in the evening session on December 20. The meeting of O'Connor and Slevin is the third match up in the session which begins at 7pm.
Should O'Connor come through his first round game, he will face Belgian 11th seed Dimitri van den Bergh in the second round on Sunday evening, December 22, live on Sky Sports.
The first and second rounds are played across nine days from December 15-23, as 96 players prepare to feature in a festive feast of darts at London’s Ally Pally.
O'Connor, nicknamed 'the Magpie' has a current PDC world ranking of 48. O'Connor's first round opponent, Slevin, from Borrisokane, will be competing at the ‘Alexandra Palace’Ally Pally’ for the second year in a row after coming through the qualifiers. O'Connor reached the second round of the World Championships last year before losing out to Chris Dobey, of England, the number 17 seed.
Thirty eight-year-old O'Connor scored a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Bhav Patel, of India, in his opening round tie last December. The 96 entrants this year are competing for the Sid Waddell Trophy and stg£2.5m in prize money.
