THE National Polocrosse event, the main event of the Irish Polocrosse Calendar, will take place in Crecora Mills this weekend as the event returns to Limerick for the first time since 2017.

Teams are entered in grades depending on ability and experience, starting with A grade down to D grade. The Limerick club hope to host somewhere between 15-20 teams across all grades with teams travelling from Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford and Down.
Polocrosse is an adaptation of Polo mixed with Lacrosse. Similar to polo, it is a team equestrian sport except with teams of 3 instead of 4 and use a modified lacrosse racquet to pick up the ball, pass to team mates and throw goals on a pitch similar in size to a GAA pitch. Games are made up of 3 period of play called a chukka, with each chukka made up of 6 minutes which is overseen by 2 umpires and at least 2 goal judges.
This year marks the clubs 30th anniversary since it was established. Polocrosse in Ireland has faced numerous challenges, in particular covid-19 pandemic. Reaching the 30 year milestone is a massive achievement for the club, made extra special by the fact we are hosting the Irish Polocrosse Nationals. A number of new members in the club have not had the opportunity to host a tournament and there is massive excitement amongst  the group to host the biggest event of the year on the clubs 30th anniversary, made extra special by the attendance of the mayor of Limerick.
Entry to the event is free of charge, with games being played from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am until 3pm on the Sunday. With it being the highlight of the calendar, we are guaranteed to have the best players in the country battling it out for the title of the season. There will be 1 pitch for all the games, a coffee truck serving refreshments and an evening meal at 7pm for all players and guests.
