Two victories for Limerick Cricket Club after busy weekend of action

Busy weekend of action for Limerick Cricket Club

The Limerick Cricket Club Thirds side that beat Midleton last weekend

FOUR LIMERICK Cricket Club teams were in action over the weekend with mixed success with the first team, seconds, thirds and U13s all in action.

The first team welcomed Cork County to the Manor Fields. Cork put in a fine effort in their 50 overs to finish on 236-9 and it proved decisive as their bowlers ripped through the top order and Limerick were all out for 167. Sumukh Venkatesh top scored for Limerick with 45 runs.

In Division one, the second team were in action against Midleton in a rain affected contest. Midleton put in a strong performance in their 50 overs, finishing on 305-9.

Limerick started well with the bat in their chase but the rain caused havoc to the game and both captains agreed to call a halt to proceedings.

The thirds hosted Midleton in Adare on Sunday and earned a victory. The bowlers did the majority of the work with Sathya Prabhu landing 4-27 to restrict Midleton to 134 off just 26 overs.

Limerick lost their openers early on and were at one stage in trouble on 59-4 but a score of 39 from the bat of Manoj Sharma saw them home to the win.

The U13s earned their first win of the season with a 41-run win over County Galway at Lycidan.

Next week sees all four teams in action again as the season begins to meander into its course. The 1st will face a tricky test away to unbeaten County Galway in the Premier Division on Sunday while the 2nd XI will play newcomers County Clare in Adare on Saturday. The 3rds game vs newly promoted Waterford and 4ths vs County Kerry make up the full complement of fixtures.
