DUP MLA condemns ‘vile and threatening’ social media comments

A DUP politician has said he has been the victim of “vile and threatening comments” on social media.

South Antrim MLA Trevor Clarke, who also sits on the Policing Board, said he has reported the matter to the police.

Mr Clarke said: “The language used in these posts is shocking and deeply concerning.

“These are not throwaway remarks, they are explicit threats of violence and intimidation.

“No one in public life should have to tolerate this kind of abuse.

“It is an attack not just on me as an individual, but on the democratic process itself.”

The MLA added: “I have reported these threats to the police and I welcome that they are now actively investigating the matter.

“Those responsible must be held accountable for their actions.

“Let me be clear, I will not be intimidated. I will continue to represent the people of South Antrim and carry out my duties without fear or favour.”
