Police carry out searches during ‘torturous’ time for Wayne Reid’s family

Officers investigating the murder of Wayne Reid say the past fortnight has been “torturous” for his family, as the PSNI carries out searches in Coleraine.

The 43-year-old was assaulted in the early hours of January 10, and died from his injuries two days later.

On Saturday, police officers carried out searches in the Lisnablagh Road area of the County Derry town.

Detective Chief Inspector Hazel Miller said: “The last two weeks have been torturous for Wayne’s family and loved ones.

“We will continue to work relentlessly to bring those responsible to justice.”

Police believe the father-of-one sustained fatal injuries in a flat in Society Street shortly after 3am.

At around midday that day, he went another property in nearby Society Court and died from his injuries, at that property, two days later.

Darrell Joseph Shaw, 33, has been charged with his murder and remanded in custody, and is due to appear in court on February 16.

Eight other people arrested in connection with Mr Reid’s death have been released on bail.

Ms Miller said the force has carried out “extensive” door-to-door inquiries, spoken to pedestrians and members of the local community and carried out “multiple” searches.

She added: “Residents will continue to see a police presence in the area, and I’m keen to take the opportunity to thank the local community for their ongoing support.

“I’m appealing to anyone who has information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to do the right thing and contact us”.
