Limerick Hospital Group responds following man's death in Nenagh Hospital car park

University Hospital Limerick Group has said that it cannot comment in detail on individual cases when to do so might reveal information in relation to identifiable individuals, breaching the ethical requirement on UHLG to observe its duty of confidentiality, following the death of a male in his 60s in the car park at Nenagh Hospital on January 30.

It is understood that the man became unwell while attending at Nenagh Hospital, and medical staff had urged him to seek treatment by attending at University Hospital Limerick.

It is understood the man refused ambulance transport and may have suffered a heart attack.

UHLG confirmed that staff at Nenagh Hospital did attempt to resuscitate a male patient in the car park.

“The attempts to resuscitate the patient were unsuccessful and we express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the man in question,” they said.

Gardaí attended at the scene and will now prepare a file for the coroner.
