Following on the policy of downsizing garda resources over the last five years and the upsurge in crime and anti-social behavior, it is vitally important that we continue to support our local garda force by identifying and reporting any public disorder or suspicions of criminal activity. We are currently working on setting up a Text Alert Service in our area to facilitate the above. Please come along on the night to receive information on this and other initiatives that are in progress. Anyone present at the AGM will be entered for a free draw for a hamper which will take place at the close of the meeting.

HOLYCROSS GIRLS SOCCER U16: Sunday last saw Holycross U16 Girls play Mungret in a top of the table clash in Holycross. The Cross girls attacked from the start and had Mungret on the back foot. With Caoimhe in goal, a back-line of Gillian, Marian, Kate backed up by Siobhan and Vivienne on the wings the defence was very solid. Ide, Maria and Dearbhla in midfield with Shauna and Lauren up front. Maria Cronin playing her first game on her return to Holycross received a pass, controlled it and fired a fierce shot from 40 yards, which the Mungret goalie could not hold, to the net. 1 up to the Cross after 5 minutes. Mungret hit back but the Holycross defence was very solid and allowed them little space. The Cross were playing very well with Dearbhla creating chances for all the girls around her with some lovely passes and was a little unlucky not to score herself. Eimear came on in the back and Siobhan and Maeve up front. Siobhan was pushing forward from the back and on 20 minutes she ran through the Mungret defence to put the Cross 2-0 up. Within 5 minutes the Cross were 3-0 up as Vivienne raced down the right to the edge of the box and shot home. Shauna and Lauren were working very hard up front. Ide was breaking up all the Mungret attacks with Maria controlling midfield. The few times Mungret had the Cross defence in trouble Dearbhla was there to tidy up. Half time was approaching fast when Siobhan beat the full back, raced 40 metres holding her off and with the Mungret goalie advancing, hammered the ball to the net. Half time 4-0 to the Cross. Maeve, Niamh and Ava had arrived from basketball so the Cross could put on fresh legs. Siobhan, Ide and Shauna came off and the trio went on. The Cross has a depth of talent and none of the substitutes weakened the team in any way. Mungret started the second half in determined fashion but Katie, Gillian and Marian were up to the task and worked very hard. When Mungret did get through Caoimhe was in great form in goal. As the game went on Ava received a pass in her own half and raced forward, ball at her feet, holding off the Mungret defence. With Maria and Dearbhla pulling wide in support the Mungret defence opened and with a burst of acceleration Ava split the defence and hammered the ball to the net. The Cross were now 5-0 up. With time running out Mungret upped their game again but Eimear, Niamh and Maeve along with Katie and Gillian were solid in defence. Mungret got one last chance and a beautiful lob caught Caoimhe on her 6 yard line. Final score: Holycross 5, Mungret 1. Team: Caoimhe O’Brien, Gillian Coleman, Marian Quaide (Captain), Katie Meade, Vivienne Dineen, Siobhan Meaney, Ide McCarthy, Maria Cronin, Dearbhl Egan, Lauren O’Donoghue, Shauna Ryan, Eimer Kirby, Niamh Byrne, Maeve Barry and Ava Hartigan.
