The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Empire State Building and Niagara Falls will all turn green this St Patrick’s Day.
As part of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative, locations around the world will be lit up in green.
This year those sites will also include The National Wallace Monument in Scotland, Heidecksburg Castle in Germany and Sky Tower in Auckland.
Along with the historic landmarks and natural wonders some quirkier locations have been added to this year’s event including the Jelling Stones, two Viking Age rune stones in Denmark and the Bergisel Ski Jump in Innsbruck, Austria.
Tourism Ireland’s chief executive Alice Mansergh said the initiative is a “wonderful symbol of the deep connections we share around the world”.
“Seeing well-known landmarks illuminated in green creates a shared moment of celebration and connection and reminds people of the warmth and welcome that awaits them,” she said.
She described the holiday as a “unique opportunity for tourism”.
She added: “Our message is that, while the world goes green for one day, the invitation to explore the island of Ireland lasts all year round.”
