An iconic and popular pub in Meath tragically burned down on New Years Eve, leaving the owners, locals and people across the country heartbroken.

Fagan's pub in Moynalvey, Meath is 150 years old and countless people have years worth of memories spent with family, friends and people in the community in the pub.

The owners, John and Beth-ann, shared a heart-breaking post on Instagram after the fire which said: "A lot can change on a Wednesday morning....we will go again".

In an updated post, the pair said: "We are grateful for the overwhelming support. We know this loss has been felt right across the community.....we are committed to keeping Fagan's going. Please bear with us as we prepare to take the next steps".

The social media post has received massive feedback with over 20,000 views and over 500 comments from devastated people who are hopeful to see the pub back up and running in the near future.

One person said, "Heart dropped hearing this. I’ve so many memories with Paddy, Kay and Aunty Pauline".

Another person said: "Absolutely devastating....may it come back again, we are all behind you guys".

"Devastating! John and Beth-ann, so sorry this has happened. I hope it can be rebuilt and you come back stronger. We're all behind you and hoping to make many more happy memories," another person said.

Other comments said: "A true Irish pub of pure character, craic and solid locals....sending all our love" and "Terrible news. An iconic pub. Our thoughts are with the family".
