Caught on camera: Cars smashed during shocking altercation in Shannon car park

A video is being widely circulated on social media and WhatsApp of a day time altercation between two men in Shannon town in County Clare.

The incident which is believed to have occurred in recent days in a Circle K service station car park was filmed by a by an eyewitness in the McDonalds across the road.

The video shows a man dressed in a black jumper and blue jeans chasing another man across the car park while a woman in a white patterned dressing gown yells for him to come back saying "that's enough, that's enough."

When the man returns to his car, the person filming says "he had a hammer" as the man goes over to the other man's vehicle. 

A smashing sound can be heard, and the man filming declares "he just smashed the car”, it can then be seen in the video the man going to the front of the car and hitting the windscreen and the front of the car repeatedly with the ‘hammer’. 

The two men continue to shout at each other before the man who damaged the other car gets back into his vehicle with the woman in the dressing gown. 

The other man then returns to his vehicle, and as he and the woman start to drive out of the car park, the man whose windows were smashed drives his car into the passenger side doors of the other vehicle.

As he attempts to drive around the car, the car with the man and woman in it reverses back to hit his front bumper. 

Both vehicles then leave the car park and out of view of the camera heading in the same direction. 

Since the video has been widely circulated on social media, users have erupted in response to the video, with one X users commenting: "Isn't Christmas magical."

Another quipped that the men were fighting “all over coz he ate his curly wurly out of his selection box”. 

Other users were quick to comment on the location of the incident with one stating “Thats the circle K and Maccies [McDonalds] in Shannon, Co Clare ..”. 

With others saying: “Criminal damage and he has his car parked right there with everything being recorded on CCTV” and “Plenty of cameras in fuel stations”. 

Gardaí were contacted for comment but were unable to provide any details at this time.
