Irish households to see reduction in gas prices ahead of winter months
Irish households will welcome the news that Electric Ireland has announced a decrease in gas prices which will be introduced in the coming months.
Electric Ireland announced today, Wednesday 10 September, that residential gas prices will be reduced by 4% from 1 November 2025. However, electricity prices will remain unchanged for its almost 1.1 million residential customers.
From as early as November, home gas unit rates and standing charges will decrease by 4% which equates to a €57.56 saving per annum on the average gas bill.
Electric Ireland said that as a result of this reduction, its Gas Standard Variable Tariff EAB will be one of the most competitive on the market.
This is their fourth consecutive decrease in home gas prices for customers since November 2023, delivering a cumulative reduction of 23.6%, and savings of €390 (excluding VAT and carbon tax) on the average annual gas bill for its customers.
Electric Ireland has also reduced electricity unit prices for residential customers three times in the past two years, with a cumulative decrease of up to 19.34%. However, there will be no reduction in electricity costs this year as unit rates and standing charges will remain unchanged.

"Electric Ireland is committed to supporting customers, and this is the fourth consecutive decrease for our residential gas. These customers have experienced combined reductions of 23.6%, and Electric Ireland residential electricity customers have seen a cumulative decrease of up to 19.34% across three decreases in the same period."
Electric Ireland has stated they are aware of the pressures on customers with the cost-of-living and have reviewed their support services ahead of the winter months. They also said they have engaged closely with key stakeholders such as MABS, SVP, and Alone to ensure they develop measures which will provide meaningful impact for the most financially vulnerable customers.
