Witnesses are being sought after a vehicle which was being pursued by gardai was in collision with another vehicle over the bank holiday weekend.

Gardaí in Laois say they three individuals who "fled across fields" were arrested after the incident of alleged dangerous driving which happened on a local rural road on Sunday, June 1. 

They are appealing for information in relation to the incident involving a black 2008 Seat Ibiza which occurred between 2.15pm and 2.35 on Sunday.

"The vehicle travelled at speed from Rathdowney to Donaghmore, then to Ballyquaid, and later became involved in a traffic pursuit with gardaí from Shanboe to Ballybrophy, before returning through Donaghmore and colliding with another vehicle at Grantstown," read a post on social media.

Gardai have also shared images from the aftermath of the incident which shows the vehicles involved sustained significant damage. No information has been disclosed publicly regarding any injuries.

"Following the collision, the occupants (of the Seat Ibiza) fled on foot across fields. Three individuals were arrested shortly afterwards," added the Facebook post.

Garda are appealing to anyone who witnessed the driving of this vehicle or who observed suspicious activity along the route to contact them.

They are also asking that any relevant dash cam or CCTV footage is made available to them.
