The soon to be new Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, holds an Irish passport.

The man taking over from Justin Trudeau plans to denounce his citizenship before he takes over as PM.

Carney's grandparents are from County Mayo and therefore he holds his Irish citizenship.

Speaking on his roots he says: “That Irish heritage is a big part of who I am“.

He has previously ran the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, and is in line to take over after winning the Liberal Party leadership, even though he has never held a political office.

In a time where the Canada and United States are under increased tensions with tariffs back and forth, his banking background, may aide him in navigating these relations.
