Garda Instructor Ken McDonald has achieved a new Irish record

Congratulations have poured in for a Garda Instructor at Templemore Garda College, Ken McDonald, who has achieved a new Irish record at the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships.

The championship was held at the University of Limerick's Sports Arena where McDonald won the Men's Open lightweight event in 1 minute 24.2 seconds, just 0.2 seconds shy of the world record.

He also won the 2000m event in 6 minutes 32 seconds.

McDonald is the current World Indoor champion (50+ lightweight) in both events, a multiple world champion and world record holder.

He rows with Shannon Rowing Club in Limerick.
