Tributes are being paid to a 62-year-old fisherman who died after he fell from a boat in Co Louth on Monday morning.
The Carlingford community has been rocked by the tragic accident in which a well-known fisherman and father-of-three lost his life after falling from a boat at St John's Pier, Carlingford.
The fisherman has been named locally as Gearóid McMahon of Ard na Mara, Wallaces Road, Blackrock, Louth and formerly of Ennis Road, Limerick and Strand Road, Limerick.
Gardaí and the Coast Guard rushed to the scene when the alarm was raised at around 8.30am on Monday morning, with garda divers deployed to rescue the 62-year-old man.
Mr McMahon is survived by his wife Patricia and his three children Fiona, Eoin and Ruaíri.
On his death notice on RIP.ie, it states Mr McMahon will be "deeply missed by his family, his parents-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his wide and wonderful circle of friends who enriched his life".
Tributes have been paid on RIP.ie with one friend saying: "So sorry to hear the sad news of Gearoid’s passing, we had good times on the water and in the bar. Condolences to all the family."
Another tribute read: "To Patricia and the McMahon and McHenry family, I’m sending you all my love and sympathy at this difficult time. So sad. Thought we’d be friends forever. Gearoid was a gentleman and such fun. Today I stood on Garryvoe beach remembering him and our adventures in fish and beer in Germany and beyond. May he rest in peace. Grá mór."
A third read: "Deepest condolences to Trish, Fiona, Eoin, Ruairi and all of the extended family. We are so terribly sorry to hear of the untimely passing of your wonderful Gearoid. He was an absolute gentleman, so kind, friendly and always such great company. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace."
Mr McMahon's funeral details will be confirmed on Friday afternoon.
