A motorist who was allegedly caught travelling at high speed on a rural road is facing prosecution before the courts, gardai have confirmed.
Gardaí in Buncrana, Co. Donegal were checking motorists' speed on roads around Carndonagh in the north of the county when they detected a vehicle which was travelling at 150km/h in a 80km/h zone - almost twice the speed limit.
Highlighting the detection on social media, they said the driver was arrested and has since been charged. The driver is due to appear before the courts at a later date.

Details of the detection have been revealed as new figures from the Road Safety Authority show there were 461,467 speeding detections in the month of October this year alone.
