High winds associated with Storm Bert have led to power outages impacting tens of thousands of people along the west and north west.

ESB Networks has confirmed around 60,000 homes, farms and businesses are currently without power with counties Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Cavan, Monaghan, Kerry and Cork being the worst impacted.

A spokesperson confirmed that crews and contractors have been deployed and that efforts are underway to restore power in impacted areas where it is safe to do so.

For those who are affected, estimated restoration times are available on PowerCheck.ie and the portal will be updated as fault sites are assessed and restoration work progresses.

"With Met Éireann forecasting Storm Bert to dominate our weather through the weekend, further power outages can be expected. ESB Networks teams are closely monitoring the storm impact on power supplies and all available resources remain on alert," said the spokesperson.
