Defence solicitor Frank Gearty said his client was 18 and that it was one of the first times he had been behind the wheel of the vehicle.

"It was a car he was unaccustomed to," he stated.

Judge Owens questioned why an 18 year old was driving a BMW 5 Series car in the first place and she appeared concerned.

"That is a residential stretch of road," she added.

The case was put back until the afternoon and when the defendant failed to return to court it was adjourned until October 22 next.
