A fundraiser has since been launched by family friend Joanne Trimble, who  met the family during Danny's treatment in Dublin.

"I got to know this family when Danny got home from Temple street aged only 4 weeks," Joanne explained.

"This little man has nurses to care for him at night. He and his little brother Charlie are the most amazing little boys," she added.

Explaining the reasoning of the fundraiser, Joanne said: "We want to help Danny to avail of light therapy, this treatment could really help to give Danny a better chance".

"Anybody that meets Danny will know just how special he is".

The online GoFundMe has raised over €16,000 so far, with a goal of €20,000 in reach.

"All donations are much appreciated," Joanne said.
