The woman's body was recovered from the sea at Portu Maga in Sardinia
An Irish woman has died after being swept into the sea in Sardinia.
Local media, L’Unione Sarda, has reported that the incident involving the 62-year-old Irish woman happened on Tuesday evening in the seaside village of Portu Maga.
Her body was recovered from the sea by a specialist diver following a search and rescue operation.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular support to the woman's family following the tragic incident.
This is the second tragedy involving an Irish tourist on the Italian island of Sardinia in less than a week. On Sunday, the body of John Bergin, a hiker originally from Kilkenny, was found after been reported missing on Friday.
