Gardai investigating online threats made against the Taoiseach Simon Harris have charged a man who was arrested over the weekend.
Following his arrest on Sunday morning, the suspect, who is aged in his 40s, was detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in the Garda North Western Region.
In an update, issued this Monday morning, gardaí say the man is expected to appear in court later today.
"Gardai have charged the man, aged in his 40s, who arrested as part of the investigation into online threats against an elected representative. He is expected to appear before a sitting of Galway District Court at 3pm on Monday, August 12, 2024," read a brief statement.
No further information regarding the alleged threats have been disclosed publicly.
