'A lovely lady with a pleasant smile' - Tributes paid as victim of tragic Waterford crash named locally

Warm tributes have been paid to the woman who tragically died in a road crash in Waterford earlier this week.

Margaret (Maggie Aggie) Burnes (née Troy) White Strand, Abbeyside, Dungarvan and formerly Ballyogarty, Kilmacthomas, died in the two vehicle collision in Waterford on Tuesday 9th July.

The collision involved a truck and a car and occurred on the N25 at Garranbane at approximately 9.20am.

Margaret, aged in her 70s, was treated by emergency services at the scene but sadly passed away from her injuries.

The driver of the truck, a male, was taken to Waterford University Hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.

Margaret's death notice states that she is "deeply mourned by her loving daughter Jenny, granddaughter Sophie, sisters Ollie and Barbara, her brother John, brother-in-law Gerry, sisters-in-law Mary and Ann, nephews, nieces, neighbours and extended family."

She was predeceased by her parents James and Nellie, brother Shamie and sisters Pat and Philomena.

Dozens of condolences have been made to the Waterford native, with one noting that Margaret was "a lovely woman whom we would regularly pass on our walk out of the estate, she was always pottering away in her garden with a warm smile on her face".

Another heartfelt message was left for the family by a good samaritan who stopped at the scene of the crash and stayed by Margaret's side. "I would like her family especially her daughter to know that a lady stayed with your mum, she wasn't alone," they said.

Margaret was described by many in her local community as a "lovely lady", who was "always bubbly" and loved "keeping busy looking after her home and garden".

Margaret will be reposing at Drohan’s Funeral Home Dungarvan on Sunday 14th July from 4pm until 6pm.

The funeral mass will take place on Monday 15th July at 11am in St. Anne’s Church, Ballylaneen. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
